Call For Application - Virtual Meetup Grants Series 3&4

The Virtual Meetup Grant is a part of the AfriLabs Hubs Learning Week under the AfriLabs Capacity Building Programme (ACBP). The ACBP is a 36-month intensive capacity building program designed by AfriLabs for African tech hubs to improve their capacity to support the growing number of startups and MSMEs in their communities across Africa. It is supported by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) through the Digital Africa seed fund.

AfriLabs is calling its member hubs who participated in the just-concluded AfriLabs Hubs Learning Week Special Edition to apply for the third and fourth round of the Virtual Meetup grants. The grant of 2,000 euros will be awarded to Six (6) successful hubs to execute Virtual Meetups targeted at enhancing mentoring and coaching models within their communities. The 2020 AfriLabs Hubs Learning Week Series 3 and 4 is supported by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) through the Digital Africa seed fund.


Only AfriLabs member Hubs who were represented at the French and English webinar on “Building successful women owned businesses through effective mentorship strategies” during the Learning Week Special Edition held on 19th November, 2020 are qualified to apply for the Virtual Meetup grants.

Application Guidelines

Qualified applicants should fill in the form following the guidelines below:

Abstract: A 70 words abstract that clearly summarizes the proposal, its methods and outcomes

  • Hub Bio: . The hub bio should be one paragraph and should include general details on hub, it's activities and its mode of operation.

  • Project Description (Proposed project narrative): The project description should provide a detailed description of the program that you are seeking to be funded by the grant.

    • The implementation of the lessons learned from the webinars reflecting actual strategies covered in the capacity building session;

    • Explain the duration of time during which the funds will support the project.

    • The goals of the project, how they will be achieved, how success or failure will be measured.

    • Describe the activities that will be funded to achieve the desired goal and how achievement of that goal will be measured or defined.

    • The Project Description to also include information about the staff who will work on the project, their experience and qualifications to perform the activities that will be funded.

  • Participant Engagement: Show how hubs will effectively engage at least 100 participants (startups, developers, mentors, innovators, and other stakeholder groups) from within their city at the virtual Meetup;

  • Project Implementation: Describe how the startups, developers, innovators, and other stakeholder groups will be engaged in discussions regarding issues and solutions around mentoring and coaching models within their communities.

  • Description of Meetup Activities: Include a description of the virtual meetup and activities for which the 2,000 euros grant will be used, costing to be clearly presented in a summarized budget table;

  • Monitoring Framework: Upload a brief and concise logical framework to track the objective of the assignment, stated benchmarks, output, outcome and to provide strategies for mitigating the possible setbacks that could impede the successful execution of the virtual Meetup.

  • Budget: Upload a one page budget showing line items, activities and cost of virtual meetup activities. Your budget should not exceed 2,000 Euros .

Note: Your applications must demonstrate ecosystem engagement and an understanding of Mentoring and Coaching issues in your community
